After Paris, London and Berlin it has come the time to open a new catalan embassy in New York, continuing with the firm intention of catalan vice-president Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira of building up a net of delegations in key countries all over the world. These delegations are not embassies as commonly understood, basically because Catalonia is not an independent state . But they do represent the catalan interests abroad and will improve bilateral relations with authorities in foreign countries, as well as other international organitzations such as the United Nations.

These delegation offices represent only one of the many steps that Catalonia has to undertake to boost its international projection, which has historically been a major weakness. As former President Jordi Pujol says in his blog ”The international projection of Catalonia is necessary if the country is to be known and is to function as a part of this world. The world for Catalans must be the whole world. “
Hopefully, the delegation office in New York will only be one of many more offices to be inaugurated over the next years, and will provide a means to improve international relations between Catalonia and the United States.

just ridiculous… total waste of public funds.
Catalonia is a wonderful land withing Spain, a proud part of it. Ultra-nationalists try to take it apart from Spain, developing such stupid things like a different language… EVEN FOR DEAF PEOPLE. Not a joke.
Nationalism may suit Afganisthan, no room within modern Europe.
Dear Diego, I don’t understand why you get so annoyed when we try to let all Catalan speakers tune the only channel in the world made in Catalan. If you are able to understand, for instance, TVE being broadcasted in Latinamerica, why can’t we have TV3 in Northern Catalonia?
And by the way, “ultra-nationalists” are not those who try to keep their own threatened language, but those who despite having one of the most important languages in the world want to get rid of another language because they can’t cope with cultural diversity.
